Liseberg, the amusement park in central Gothenburg, turns into one of Sweden's biggest Christmas markets every year – a tradition since 2000. In 2026 the season opens on Saturday 14 November and ends on 30 December. The park is not open every day, so check the calendar below before you plan a visit.
Opening days and hours 2026
In November the park is open Friday to Sunday. In December it is open Wednesday to Sunday until 13 December, then every day from 16 to 23 December and from 26 to 30 December; it is closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Opening hours are 3–10pm on Fridays, noon–10pm on Saturdays, noon–8pm on Sundays and 3–9pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. From 20 to 23 December it is open noon–9pm, and from 26 to 30 December noon–8pm. The organiser reserves the right to make changes, so check liseberg.se before you go.
Four markets inside the park
There is not one market but four: a Tyrolean market with a Christmas pyramid and live music between the bumper cars and the Slänggungan ride; an old-fashioned Swedish Christmas in Kvarteret Storgatan; a winter market by the main stage (Stora Scenen) and the ice rink; and Tomtebyn, Santa's village, between the harbour area and the Valkyria roller coaster. There is also a light show that projects the northern lights and a starry sky onto the buildings around the harbour. Every stallholder has to be open on all market days, so the selection is the same whichever day you come.
Tickets: what is included
The markets are inside the park, so you need an entrance ticket or a Liseberg pass. The ice rink, the light show and Tomtehuset (Santa's house) are included in the entrance; the rides need a ride pass or ride coupons. Tickets are always cheaper on liseberg.se than at the gate. When this page was checked (3 October 2026), Liseberg had not yet published the day-ticket prices for the Christmas season; the Liseberg pass, which gives entry to the park for 12 months, cost SEK 395.
Paying: bring a card
Liseberg is cash-free, apart from a few prize games, and there are cash machines in the park if you need them. Swish, the mobile payment app most Swedes use, needs a Swedish bank account, so a debit or credit card – or Apple Pay or Google Pay – is what works for visitors.
Getting there from the airport and the station
From Landvetter Airport, the Flygbussarna airport coach takes about 20 minutes and stops at Korsvägen, right by Liseberg's north entrance (Örgrytevägen 5), before it ends at the Central Station. From Gothenburg Central Station it is a 10–15 minute walk. By tram or bus, get off at Korsvägen or Liseberg station for the north entrance, or at Liseberg Södra for the south entrance by the Grand Curiosa Hotel. On trams and buses in zone A you can tap a contactless Visa or Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay on the card reader as you board; the drivers do not sell tickets.
More Christmas markets in Gothenburg
Two free markets are a short tram ride away: Jul i Haga on the cobbled main street of the Haga district, and Kronhusjul, a month of Christmas events in and around Kronhuset, the oldest building in the city.
How this page is made
This page is written for visitors from abroad, not translated from the Swedish one. The dates come from the same market data as the Swedish page; the opening hours, ticket rules and directions were checked by hand against Liseberg's own pages on 27 September 2026, and the airport bus, tram tickets and payment details against Swedavia, Västtrafik and Visit Sweden on 3 October 2026. When the organiser's details change in the market data, this text has to be checked and updated before the site can be rebuilt.
